Journey Home - Petrus’ Greener Front Garden at RHS Tatton Park 2022
You can't have a green front garden without having a front door and home. As a homelessness charity, we understand the unique and sometimes rocky road that people can take to find a place of their own.
Co-designed and built by staff, volunteers and service users, the Petrus garden encourages quiet reflection on what 'home' means to each of us and the journey to closing your own front door at the end of the day.
The garden also aims to provoke conversations on therapeutic horticulture and green social prescribing, both of which are available to the people of Rochdale at Petrus' community allotment, PIER.
Journey Home focuses on reconnecting with nature and on activities that support health and wellbeing. It considers green corridors, materials we use and the physical ways we can live in a more sustainable and eco-friendly way. Our fence panels are reclaimed timber that have been hand-sanded and oiled. Each post is wide enough for a badger to fit through. The gate was made using the same materials. The glass stones are recycled TV screens, the wood panelling on the wall is a recycled dance floor and the mosaic mirror was made by our Service Lead, Rachael.
Journey Home has been sponsored by M&Y Maintenance and Construction. M&Y has been building and repairing homes for over 45 years and is a profit-for-purpose company, investing profits into the communities they work within.
