The team where thrilled to hear that ‘The Kaleidoscope Ginnel Garden,’ had caught the eye of Coronation Street Legend Barbara Knox.
The garden, inspired by the ginnels sitting between terraces like those on Coronation Street, was designed by our staff, service users and volunteers to celebrate the diverse friendships formed through community gardening.
It challenges visitors to see things from a different perspective by reflecting what people who have experienced homelessness, isolation, mental health issues and other complex social needs can achieve when they are empowered, trusted and believed in.
A regular volunteer at our community allotment, PIER, Les Mustill was over the moon to meet Barbara, who plays Corrie icon Rita Sullivan.
After showing her all our garden has to offer, they stopped on one of our chatty benches to enjoy some soap gossip, (although Barbara said we’d have to wait to find out whether the rumours are true about Corey Brents dramatic return).
We were also delighted to meet Dave the plant man and Gardeners World’s very own Adam Frost.
Experiences like these are one of the many reasons Petrus has been part of the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show for the last 5 years. The feelings of acceptance and belonging that comes from moments like these help our service users and volunteers to build confidence and reduce isolation.
