Jim’s looking forward to to being home for Christmas

This will be the first year in a while since Jim has celebrated Christmas in a place he can call his own and he’s really looking forward to it!

Following a history of homelessness, substance use and time within the criminal justice system, Jim was referred to the Housing First team in April 2021, where he was helped to find a flat in an area that he wanted to live in.

Jim said: “I’m so looking forward to Christmas, getting time to chill in my own home and going out with my mum and step-dad.”

Jim has saved up over the year to buy Christmas gifts for his family and can’t wait to invite his friends and family over for the festive period.

Reflecting on previous Christmases, Jim is feeling great knowing that he is getting his life back on track.

Looking back now, Jim added: “It all feels like a dream how far I’ve come, but I’m loving every moment of it and intend to keep it this way.

“This is the first time in a while now that I am spending Christmas in my own place and I’m buzzing – yeah man!”

Jim was so excited for Christmas that he started decorating his flat at the start of December, including dressing a tree the Housing First team sourced for him in golds, silvers and blues.

He would share photos of the progress with his Project Workers regularly and his Project Worker Vivan said: “It looks so beautiful and amazing!”

Jim added: “My biggest achievement since working with Housing First was that I got my own flat – something I don’t think I’d have done without them. My Project Workers help with as much as possible and really go out of their way to help me. It helps me to keep positive because they believe in me. There’s nothing I think I’d change because I’m really happy and so glad I’ve been a part of Housing First.”

Jim is very proud of how far he’s come and optimistic about his future and is looking forward to continuing to finding a full-time job.

We want to wish him all the best in his home, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
