We’re proud to have been selected to be part of the National Academy for Social Prescribing programme to develop a multi-disciplinary social prescribing network to improve health in Rochdale.
As we have amazingly been awarded the Thriving Communities Fund, we’ll be able to team up with KYP, Link4Life, Action Together, Rochdale Health Alliance’s Social Prescribing team and Public Health to form a network delivering social prescribing activity across the borough.
As part of the network, our aim is to support people in a holistic way to develop a stronger, healthier community. We believe we’ll achieve this through working together in collaboration to increase the social prescribing activity available; especially for people affected by COVID-19 and those facing health inequalities such as the BAME and homeless communities.
We’ll be working alongside our partners to deliver a range of community activities across four key areas:
- Nature and environment
- Sports and leisure
- Arts and culture
- Finance and advice services
With a shared goal of raising awareness and providing increased choice and opportunity to engage in health and wellbeing activity and support based on an individuals’ needs, ambitions, and interests.
The network will bring a collective of VCSE and health partners together to develop the network's social prescribing model and will feed into the national Thriving Community programme, sharing learning and good practice.
We’re really pleased to be a part of this network and to work alongside our partners. We are excited at the chance to increase understanding of the benefits of social prescribing and are looking forward to sharing more information about the activities we’ll be delivering soon.
The funding we received was made possible by National Academy for Social Prescribing, Arts Council England, Natural England and Historic England, with support from NHS England and NHS Improvement, Sport England, the Money & Pensions Service and NHS Charities Together. We want to say a massive thank you for giving us this opportunity to make a difference in our community.
To mark the official launch of the new network, we’ll be hosting a celebration and information event online on Wednesday 28th April to tell you more about this great opportunity for our borough!
