We’re delighted to share that following the closure of our Petrus Community Store, we have been working with other charities to continue to provide to people in need.
We have donated some of our remaining stock from our store to Reuse Littleborough and Caring and Sharing in Rochdale – two organisations who have recently set up retail outlets in the former Marks and Spencer building in Rochdale town centre.
This fantastic department store of charity shops, opened under the new name of ‘Better Together Building’, launched on Tuesday 18th May and offers free space for charities through an organisation, ASTOP, which works to give vacant buildings a new purpose.
We’re pleased we could provide Reuse Littleborough and Caring and Sharing with furniture, books, DVDs, children’s toys, and clothing to continue to support the local community through them.
We were also able to donate shelving to Reuse Littleborough’s book and DVD department – shelving which is twice recycled as it was previously donated to Petrus by Rochdale Central Library!
Our volunteers and Store Supervisor Tracy really enjoyed going down to visit their new spaces and see the work they’re doing.
Tracy said: “Two of our volunteers are hoping to do some extra volunteering there once our store clearance is complete; they have a great friendship and work well together so I’m really glad they’ll be able to provide retail support in our community while continuing to volunteer for us.”
We’d like to wish all the charities and community groups set up in the Better Together Building every success for the future as they help people in our borough.
Through donating our remaining stock, we're happy to have also provided some of our Petrus service users and individuals supported through Greater Manchester Housing First with furniture, clothing and items for their homes alongside other charitable and support organisations who have got in touch with us.
