What an incredible success it’s been for our service users, volunteers, staff and supporters who took part in our sponsored walk earlier this month.
Over 80 people attended over the course of the day at Hollingworth Lake to raise funds for our service users and volunteers’ show garden entry at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park in July.
Many who took part even did multiple laps – including our PIER volunteers Ken and Nathan who were part of organising the event and who did more than four circuits around the two and a half hour long walk.
The glorious sun, floral head dresses, friendships formed and Petrus t-shirts galore, it was an amazing sight and the reception from the public was fantastic!
We’re delighted to share that a total of £308 has been raised through our service users’ sponsorship link on Virgin Money Giving.
Sadly, many of our service users struggle to raise sponsors but they’ve been really moved to see support from members of the community for this.
The idea to complete the walk came from our service users and volunteers so it has been touching to see so many people supporting them.
Service Manager Rachael said: “Our volunteer Nathan delivered a fantastic thank you speech on the day, receiving an applause from everyone and that’s what it’s all about at Petrus: Bringing people’s ideas to life, empowering them to make positive changes in their community and we were just so proud of him and everyone involved in organising the walk.”
PIER Volunteer Martin said: “It was a hot day, but we were very happy, everyone was cheerful about being there, it was a great turnout. Thank you to everyone who turned up and who has sponsored us so far to support us at Tatton.”
One of our service users added: “I loved it – there was really good scenery, it was great to chat to people from other Petrus housing projects. The weather was excellent and it made me feel brill… my knees were killing me the day after though but well worth it!”
We’re continuing to raise funds to enable as many of our service users as possible to be involved in bringing their garden design to RHS Flower Show Tatton Park.
The show will see Petrus compete alongside garden designers from across the UK, just taking part will be a fantastic achievement and it’s truly wonderful to be flying the flag for our community in Rochdale.
If you’d still like to show our service users and volunteers your support, celebrate their success and help them get to Tatton, donate over on https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/tattonwalk or get in touch with us at fundraising@regenda.org.uk
We’re also pleased to add how as a result of this sponsored walk, our service users are now keen to do more walking together having enjoyed the day of catching up and forming new connections – so keep an eye out for future plans!
