With less than a week to go until Jane takes to the skies for a wing walk, we’re absolutely on cloud nine that she’s raised 74% of her fundraising target so far!
This is certainly no plane sailing for Jane but she’s hoping to tackle her nerves all to raise money for Petrus and the work we do to support people facing homelessness.
We’re so proud of Jane who wanted to take on this challenge to give something back to our charity after celebrating 10 years working for us.
She has been flying higher and higher ever since she started at Petrus back in 2010, and over the years has directly supported 425 people who have experienced homelessness.
Sonia Denham, Head of Petrus, said: “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jane in different capacities over the past 10 years and I’m exceptionally proud to call her a member of our team.
“She was living with her parents when I met her and as I’ve watched her career change and develop, so too has her personal life. She’s now a hardworking, inspiring mother of two beautiful children.
“Jane has always been driven and sought to learn and develop her skills, moving through the organisation taking on new roles and challenges.
“While juggling a busy home life and a demanding and challenging role at Petrus, Jane is always welcoming, funny, cheerful, and knowledgeable and puts everyone around her at ease, treating service users with the utmost dignity, respect and sincere empathy.
“I think Jane is absolutely bonkers to be taking on this challenge, but I am not one bit surprised. As well as being a brave lady, she’s deeply committed to Petrus and our vision, and absolutely deserves all our support.
“Good luck Jane, I’ll be rooting for you with my feet firmly on the ground and my knees knocking!”
Rosemary Heyes, Senior Case Manager at Rochdale Probation Office, met Jane five years ago while she was supporting service users at one of our housing projects.
Rosemary commented: “Jane is always reliable and her work with women at Petrus has been nothing less than amazing. She offers high level support and is quick to provide immediate care and solutions during times when individuals have required emergency assistance or when crisis intervention has been needed.
“Jane is a fantastic person whose dedication and commitment has had an impact on the lives of service users and practitioners. There are many people who because of Jane’s intervention have found a pathway out of their challenging lifestyles and have embarked upon new positive ventures and a change of direction.
“I am so glad Jane is doing a wing walk for Petrus. She is so brave and dedicated, and I alongside everyone at Rochdale CRC offer her our full support.
“Jane’s contribution to the work the CRC undertakes with women and vulnerable service users continues to be appreciated, including her assistance in facilitating the Probation Programme WISER (a course for women offenders). Thank you, Jane and good luck!”
Luci Sanderson, Place Worker at Rochdale Borough Council, has worked with Jane for a year. Together they support vulnerable adults to thrive and gain skills to live stable, meaningful, and independent lifestyles.
Luci said: “Jane is one of the most enthusiastic women I have ever worked with. She is always happy to help, has a vast knowledge and understanding of people she supports, is kind and caring with a passion to promote the rights of women and encourages females to be strong and confident.
“I am sure that if she puts as much enthusiasm into the wing walk as she does her work, she’ll be amazing. I hope you can sponsor her because as well as raising money, she is showing us all that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve whatever you want. Good luck, Jane!”
Liz Varey, our Service Lead at Petrus, has worked directly with Jane for around four years as her line manager.
Reflecting on their time together, Liz noted: “Jane has a can-do attitude, is compassionate and caring, great to work with and good fun!
“Her commitment to improving the lives of people we support shines through. She has a natural ability to build positive relationships with people in need of support and kindness – many of whom have not always experienced this!
“Jane’s bravery extends further than standing on top of planes! She regularly advocates for people we support, and this can at times be in the face of adversity and challenge.
“I think it’s really brave what she’s doing and represents how Jane is a committed member of our team who regularly goes ‘over and above’ for people.
“Please donate to Jane’s fundraising page because every penny comes back to our charity to fund incredible services which in turn, enables our amazing service users and residents to achieve amazing things.”
