Our new Chair of Trustees Paul Roberts is tackling his first marathon – The London Marathon 2021 – on Sunday 3rd October and needs your help to raise money for not one but three charities!
Paul pledged to run for Petrus back in 2019 before COVID restrictions put a stop to his attempt, and despite only planning to face a six-month wait to the finish line, has been training for the past two years with his Springer Spaniel dog ever since.
Through his online donation page, he’s hoping to raise £2,620 to be shared across three charities working with vulnerable people in our communities. With a matter of weeks to go, he really needs your support!
Please sponsor him and in turn help people facing homelessness and Parkinson’s disease here https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/PaulRoberts117 and spread the word
Talking about why he’s taking on the 26.2 mile challenge for Petrus and encouraging people to sponsor him, Paul said:
“It’s not about me, it’s about the charity, it’s about how fantastic the charity is. Go have a look at the charity and see what you think. Help Petrus to grow and deliver those services – brilliant services – that it delivers to people that really need help and support elsewhere because that’s what we want to do is to grow the charity and its service delivery elsewhere in the North West and hopefully beyond that in the future because it does brilliant things that help people in real need.”
Paul is also raising funds for Parkinson’s UK in memory of his late father, who passed away from the disease back in 2006.
“Parkinson’s is such a debilitating disease – the way that it affects people, you lose the person before they’re gone in many ways, so it just seemed like a good thing, a personal thing to drive me on. So anything we can do to help with research and support for people who are going through it and their families, having experienced what the families go through would be great.”
Following his work within the housing sector for 11 years, including being Board Member for The Regenda Group, the third cause Paul is hoping to raise money for is fellow homelessness charity Shelter to support more people who are in severe housing need.
Dedicated, Paul has so far covered over 1,500 miles of training which equates to nearly 60 marathons since he first put on his running shoes back in 2019!
