On Sunday 23rd August, our Housing First Project Worker Jane was due to do a terrifying wing walk for Petrus.
She wanted to mark 10 years working for our charity and give something back by raising money for the work we do to support vulnerable people.
Sadly, due to poor weather conditions, her wing walk has been postponed.
We caught up with Jane to find out how she’s doing as the wings further await her!
So Jane, tell us what happened:
“In May 2020 I celebrated a decade of working at Petrus and had hoped to take on a big challenge to raise funds to help others.
With lockdown this was put on hold but as restrictions eased, I finally got given my August date.
All was going well. I was all set in my mind, ready to do it and the team were coming along to cheer me on from the ground.
But then... I received the dreaded phone call to tell me that we were unable to go ahead due to very windy weather conditions.
I know the bad weather caused the wing walk to be called off, but some people have to sleep outside in that weather every night. So it really puts things into perspective.”
What date has your wing walk challenge been rescheduled to?
“My wing walk has been postponed to Sunday 27th September 2020 – which feels so far away!”
How do you feel about it being postponed?
“I'm absolutely gutted, especially since lockdown restrictions had delayed it originally. It's really frustrating, I was looking forward to finally doing it.
Especially as I’ve been nervous since the day I said I was doing it and now I have another month to worry!
But I just want to say thank you so so much to everyone who has supported and sponsored me over this past month. The money really does help.
I’m so proud we have reached 94% of my fundraising target, raising £1,895 which will go towards helping individuals to rebuild their lives and move away from homelessness."
